2D Animation Study

OVERVIEW:

I need to have enough ability to handle “the 12 basic principles” when producing animation. For this goal, I planned to have 3 projects that I haven’t accomplished yet to challenge and develop my skills as an animator.

Which is:
1. Walk Cycle Animation
2. Run Cycle Animation
3. Jumping Animation

Walk cycle is the most used style of animation of all the anime, it is the most seen motion so will easily be found issues when it is not completely balanced or smooth enough.

Run cycle is the most seen fast motion in animation which requires precise attention to detail in character movement, timing, and pacing. Achieving a seamless and realistic look often demands significant skill and practice in the field of animation.

Crafting a jumping animation can be quite demanding due to the complexity of capturing the physics and dynamics involved in a realistic leap. Achieving a convincing result necessitates a deep understanding of timing, gravity, and weight distribution in animation, making it a skill that animators often find challenging to master.

The projects should be detailed enough to help me fully understand how those animations move and vary. I want to focus mainly on the different frame rates (8/12/16/24/28/60 fps), and angles (front/side/back). If have enough time, I also want to research the character’s hair, clothes, and muscles (both male and female), light and shadow.

SOFTWARE USED:  Adobe Animate & Adobe Premiere Pro

MY ROLE:

This is an individual project assignment, so I worked on this project myself from project planning to implementation.

INSPIRATIONS & RESEARCH:

> The Twelve Basic Principles of Animation:

The content provided intends to followThe Twelve Basic Principles of Animation.

> Research and Reference:

The reference to the animation is huge, I mainly referenced the motion analyzed by Dermot O’ Connor, Aryan Raj, and Alan Becker. The way they present their work is easy to understand and good for animation reference usage while drawing.

PAIN POINTS & CHALLENGES:

I love animation, even though it is challenging work to do.

> Gender Differences

I still don’t really make the differences between the two genders because of the time issue, originally, I thought the working hours would be about 35 hours, but I spent over two times for it (73 hours).

> To Find Where is "Weird"

When the motion looks “weird”, it is hard to find the issue, and fixing it requires tons of frame redrawing.

It is quite time-consuming while making the work, but I did learn a lot from this project!
