Happy Camper

OVERVIEW:

“Happy Camper” is a collaboration project with my classmates to create an eLearning website. We guide the user through the information they might need for their first camping experience. I really enjoyed the work I did on this project because that included almost all the things I wanted to do, which were animation, editing, composing, and game design.

LOGO INTRO:

ABOUT LOGO INTRO:

I’m not the person who designed the logo, I made it move as motion graphics to create engagement for our project, especially for our module videos. I used the "bend" effect in After Effects and made the part of the trees, it is the second time I used the effect and it turned out well.

MODULES & ASSESSMENTS:

> Index - Introduction

The Rockies and the four Rockies parks are introduced. We will also explain what is camping and how it is fun in this part.

> Module One - Camping types

Introduce the forms of camping like tents, trailers, motorhomes, "glamping", etc. In this module, user can have their own checklist for their preferred type of camping.

 >Assessment- Pairs-up - MEMORY GAME.

> Module Two - Camping locations

Recommend camping location and its information. For example, Banff National Park, Yoho National Park, Jasper National Park, Waterton Lakes National Park, Kananaskis Country, and Vancouver. We will pick some locations from above and provide further information and activities like hiking or games.

 >Assessment- Psychological test - FIND YOUR BEST LOCATION.

> Module Three - Preparation

Things to know before going camping in the Canadian Rockies. For example some camping basics knowledge, camping terms, camping equipment, and camping knowledge. Further, we will provide information about Parks Canada Discovery Pass, Wilderness Pass, and camping and fire permits. Or some information about reservations, prices, weather, bear safety, insect awareness, etc.

 >Assessment- Storytelling game - HOW TO SET A TENT?

> Module Four - Regulation

Camping do's and don'ts. For example, campers should ensure human and pet food, garbage, dirty camp stoves, recyclables, toiletries, and all other smelly items are locked away in a metal bear-proof container provided in the park, car, or hung from a tree away from the campsite; grey water should be disposed in designated areas and away from the campsite; do not approach bears; never feed the animal and never get between a mother and her cubs; when walking on trails, people should talk, sing, or make noise to alert animals their presence…and more.

 >Assessment- Dos or don'ts sort-up - SWIPE THE CARDS!

INDEX LOOPING ANIMATION

ABOUT LOOPING BACKGROUND ANIMATION:

This is a looping background animation for the project. I found that I quite enjoy the process of making looping animation which is a lot different from the normal animation! A never-ending cycle, making the viewer's experience endlessly engaging. There's a unique satisfaction in crafting a loop that flows seamlessly, and it's a creative process that constantly challenges and inspires me.

PAIN POINTS & CHALLENGES:

This project is a limit time project that gives us lots of pressure.

> Time & Quality Balance

We just have little time to build the whole website out (6 weeks including planning while the other 4 courses still running) so I need to find a balance between the quality I make and the time I spend. It is quite difficult for me because I always tried my best to make things perfect. I'm happy I overcome the challenge and accomplish all the jobs I have been assigned.

> Key the Background

I edited these videos via Adobe Premiere Pro, and the Ultra Key tool does not work really well on the video we shoot. So I have to take all the videos to Adobe After Effect and use the Keylight tool and mask them to make sure the background does not affect our video.

> Make Videos Website-friendly

All the videos size need to be as small as they can for website-friendly usage. However, we also want the quality of it to look great. Finally, I find a way to limit the frame rate of the video and make them all 3 times smaller than the original without losing any quality.

> Combine Action with Animation

At the part of module four at 2:20, I want to make the presenter action with the animation I made. Basically, I can only use the audio track to check the timing.
In the end, the result is quite good! I'm really happy about that.
